A cinephile from childhood, Emerson's practice of subtle and brash comedy was shaped in part by the work of writer/directors John Landis, John Hughes, and Harold Ramis. He honed this approach further at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he studied film, and theatre at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.
Emerson cut his teeth in Los Angeles as an actor, performing sketch comedy at the Hollywood Improv, and appearing in more than 75 national commercials, where he worked with and learned from directors such as Zack Snyder and Michel Gondry.
Since 2009, Paul's directorial work has received 12+ million views online and has been featured by Jimmy Kimmel, theCHIVE, and on the front pages of reddit, Vimeo, and Funny or Die. Emerson has been recognized by The One Show and the NY Friar's Club for excellence in comedic directing, as well as numerous Oscar-qualifying film festivals where many of his shorts have screened.
As a performer, Emerson worked with creatives from dozens of the world's leading agencies and brands. This immersion has helped to craft his indelible approach in the direction of commercials and branded content. Partial lists below.
